Biography

Fahri Karakaya is an emeritus professor of marketing at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He has a Ph. D. degree from Clemson University, and MBA from University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He served the university of Massachusetts Dartmouth as a full professor (1994-2015), MBA Program Director (1990-97), and as department chair (2003-06). In addition, he has chaired many important committees including Graduate Curriculum Committee, College Academic Council, University Research Committee, and others. He has published over 100 papers.  Some of his publications appeared in Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Education, Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Strategic Marketing, and others. He is the co-author of three scholarly books titled “Barriers to Entry and Market Entry Decisions,” “How to Utilize New Information technology in International Business,” “Utilizing New Information technology in Teaching of International Business.” He currently serves on the editorial review boards of 10 journals. He has also been a guest editor for several journals. He has done extensive consulting in various areas of marketing for Massachusetts Governor’s Council in Economic Development, Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Small Business Development Center, and for many area private businesses.  He is the founder and director of Southeastern Massachusetts E-commerce Network (2000-15), an economic outreach program at UMass Dartmouth. Prior to joining academia, he worked as marketing director.

Massachusetts eCommerce Network (2000-2015) – Founder of this economic outreach activity at Umass Dartmouth organizing special speaking occasions, annual eCommerce conferences, and performing eCommerce research projects for he area business community. The network operated more like research center having more than 100 members and obtaining grants from several government agencies such as Massachusetts Economic Development and Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension for Partnership.

Responsible for teaching graduate and undergraduate marketing courses, conducting scholarly research, and service to the university. University service includes participation in numerous university and departmental committees including college academic council and serving as vice chair of AACSB committee. Other services include founding and serving as director of S.E. Massachusetts E-Commerce Network, and establishment of American Marketing Association college chapter at the university.

As MBA Program Director, responsible for scheduling, recruiting students, admission decisions, developing graduate curriculum, chairing graduate policy committee, establishing and maintaining relationships with MBA graduates, supervision of graduate assistants, and day to day operations of the MBA program consisting of students over 130.
